| More Skateboarding Etiquette, Just in Time For Summer or, Kids, Use Your Brains! Kids, use your damn brains! Don't ask a skateboarder on top of a ramp to come down to give you an autograph. Wait until he's walking back up the ramp in a few minutes. Or wait until the demo is over. There will be plenty of time for that later, and if a guy's skating, why would he want to stop to sign an autograph? Do you care more about the autograph than you do about watching him skate? (If you answer yes, that's a good sign you might be a clueless, budding kook.) And one more thing: don't ask for a pros' board when he's in the middle of a contest or a demo! Use your head! What the hell do you think he's going to ride if he gives you that one? I know most kids think that pros have countless boards just lined up ready to ride (mostly that's not true) but still, they'd have to stop skating and go put together another board, just to give you their perfectly good one. They don't even know you. I know you think that you're the perfect and ultimate Jim Greco fan, and that no one else thinks he's the best as much as you do, but here's some news for you: every town has 5 kids just like you, and Greco's heard it all before. If you're going to ask for a board, do it after the demo or contest, and respect the answer either way. This will fall on deaf ears, I fear. |
