| Apple Skatepark was, until recently, my all-time favorite skatepark. I have been skating Skatopia and Louisville to get my vert fix. Memories of Apple are not only about smooth lines and weightless feelings, I liked the road-trips from Huntington, West Virginia to Columbus and meeting pro skaters like David Andrecht. He pushed me to land handplants in the halfpipe. Watching Steve Olson hang-up on an early-release frontside air out of the two-thirds pipe and somehow stay on.
The most memorable session was when T-Bone was snapping shots of Bobby Reeves in the halfpipe. I thought if I could rip a big enough air in front of the camera, maybejust maybeI could get my pic in The Bible. Starting at the peanut, pumping three or four times, I rolled into the halfpipe and up the facing wall. I grabbed my big Caster CS board ("the board with boing"), and popped a little stinkbug air about two feet out. I saw the camera flash. Mission accomplished! Ted is probably still laughing about the hillbilly that thought he could get in the mag that way. He who laughs last laughs best. I am so stoked to have my picture on this site skating in the egg. My need for skateboarding fame and glory is a youthful thing of the past. Now I just want to get together with friends, hang-out, skate and have fun. My wife and three kids roll their eyes and call me a "skater dude" when I go to the park and come back all stiff, beat-up and hurt, but I have been called worse things. Thanks for the memories.
