Post-Apple
Right after Apple Skatepark closed, a flurry of skate-related activity began to flourish in the region. Instead of moping around bemoaning the loss of the park, what few skaters there were moved forward. Wooden halfpipe ramps began popping up in the backyards of Rob Roskopp, Mike Hill, Bryan Ridgeway and many others. Drainage ditches, banked parking lots and very rare backyard vert pools were sought out and sessioned more than before. Thrasher magazine, which had appeared a few months before Apple's demise, inspired homemade photocopied 'zines like Skate Fate, Rip!, Skate Attack!, The Monthly Shredder, Squid Meat, Rolling Papers (and many others elsewhere). Not long after Action Now's demise (thank God) and TransWorld Skateboarding's debut, the skateboard industry started to pick back up. Too bad Apple didn't somehow squeeze through those tough couple of years. If Apple could have somehow made it to 1984, there's a good chance it would still be around today. Oh, well...
